What effects my health?

Three almonds a day keep the doctor away.

'Discovery' apples grown in GartocharnI have  also heard this saying; an apple a day keeps the doctor away.    If it was that simple to stay healthy. But it is complicated.

Balance between work and home.

I need to have balance in my life. If work takes too much energy other parts of my life will get effected. It is easy to say;

find the thing you love to do and do that

In reality might be different, we are stuck in modern slavery, mortgages and obligations. So if that is what is draining your energy try to get out. I am still on my 10 year plan to owe nothing. I found out that my freedom was having less obligations. It is not going to happen over night and I accept it.

Clutter in your home?

When you are in your home it is supposed to be a snactuary. A place of rest. If the home is draining us of energy then what? Clutter, drains you of energy. Give things away that you have not used for two years. The spring is perfect time for cleaning.  If you have not used it for two years you don´t need it!

When I bought my house, we used a lot of time and a Feng Shui guidance to rearrange the kitchen. The energy flow was a bit off when we bought the house. But after learning about Feng Shui and seeing in action how that helped with the energy in our  house. I was amazed. I saw this great post from a Feng Shui expert with good advice for the kitchen spring cleaning and I wanted to share it with you.

The study of energy flow is vital when it comes to well-being.

The key is balance and harmony

Balance scale

My health and well being consist of the people I surround myself with, my home, my work (school), the food I eat  and the rest I get. If I deprive myself of rest and sleep . My work is going to be sloppy. If I eat unhealthy it affects my well being and sometimes my sleep (if I eat late). It is like a balance scale. overload one side and it is stealing from the other.

Positive body image is hard to maintain

The messages we get from out environment are scary at times. It takes a strong teenager to resist the pounding.

Here is a video that the Dove foundation for self esteem made. . It is no wonder that the self-esteem is broken we can not live up to the standards. We do not have makeup artist, hairstylist and Photoshop in our morning rescue team. No normal person has. Here is another video from Dove that explains the process of making a billboard.

So what do we do? We use all the means possible to look as close to the ideal that we are being served, we use cosmetics, shampoos, conditioners, hair colors, wrinkle creams deodorants, you name it! We smear all these things on our largest organ, the skin.

So is that beneficial to our health in any way?

It is shocking to read some of the rapports that are offered on EWG  , campaign for safe cosmetics.

I have thought about coloring my hair. It is getting gray and sometimes I think my hair looks lifeless and boring. But what would that do to my health?

Would it benefit my scalp to have toxic treatment regularly? So I just took random results for brown color, this is what I got.

As you see on the chart it is not going to be good, so I think I´m going to skip the coloring all together. I´ll just do something fun for the money I save. I have a friend that once said; cosmetic surgery! No , not me, I have earned every wrinkle, stretch mark and gray hair I am not going to hide my evolution! That is awful!

I agree. I wear my stretch marks, wrinkles and gray hair with pride but I have thought about getting dreadlocks. What do you think? It would be kind of fun to try.

I would  have gray/brown dreadlocks.

The thing that worries me though. If I get tired of the dreadlocks can you comb them out or do they have to grow out?

Be yourself , everybody else is taken.

Be tankful for the food

I stopped cursing the food I was about to eat some years ago. I thought that it could not be good for me to associate  food with bad energy before consumption.

I make conscious choices about what I eat and when. I know that if I drink more than one glass of vine I will  notice it in my joints the next day. If I´m not careful with what I eat I get all the symptoms of Fibromyalgia.

If I neglect drinking enough water, I will get headache. If I drink too much coffee I will get headache and become anxious. If I eat sugar or food with some unexplainable ingredients I am likely to get headache and sometimes my skin itches. If I eat a heavy meal late in the evening, I will sleep restlessly and probably wake up tired

If I deprive myself of sleep or overwork, the muscle pain and spasms are back.

What I do now, I make a choice.  And I think that we as adults should do that when it comes to food. We must take responsibility for our own health, by knowing our limitations and respecting the messages that our body is sending. I  hardly listened to my body when it was telling me when I was tired or when it  was asking me,  please eat!

My sister pointed out to me that overweight people tend to smear the food with guilt and then swallow. It can´t be good. If we are going to eat something enjoy it!

My problem has not been overweight. It is the other way around. The healthier I eat, the easier it is for me to stay at my optional health. If I start eating junk I will get thin. All I want is to be healthy. I do not have a scale in the house because it makes me nervous. My measurement is my physical and mental health. If either  is thrown off I have to do something.

I am the adult in this relationship with my body and I need to be responsible.

My body , my choices.
