The education on GMO is insufficient in the USA

I am proud of the Polish  bee farmers  and their accomplishments to agriculture.

Poland is the first country to formally acknowledge the link between Monsanto’s genetically engineered corn and the Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD) that’s been devastating bees around the world. What that means is that bees have been disappearing. If the bees disappear we are in big trouble because of their important role in pollination. And who has bought the leading research company for CCD? Well you guessed it! Monsanto

I saw this trailer on the film»Queen of the sun«. The film is about the  disappearance of the bees. It is very interesting and frightening at the same time. This is what the Colony Collapse Disorder is about.

What that has to do with GMO? Well,  in America there are no requirements to label GMO foods as you can see in this graph

Most governments are protecting the citizens and requiring labelling of GMO foods. But the general public in America does not even know  what GMO is;

We need the FDA to regulate the GMO foods, so that we have a choice. We need the FDA on the people’s side for once and make labelling of GMO foods mandatory.

Here is a video if you have never heard of Monsanto and where they come from. They are originally a chemical company so why are they in food production?

Young women on positive body image

Embrace the variety!

What we can probably all agree on, is that it would be a sad fact if we all were the same.

Luckily we come in all sizes and shapes. But somehow a particular body type has become superior. This is an article on positive body image. It is about what the young women of  Glenbard South High School, did to raise awareness. This is  a group of young women that are campaigning to change the mindset on body image — an insecurity that’s plagued many teens for generations.

We can ask the question, why the skinny is considered healthier. Well there are numerous reasons for it , the first obesity is a huge problem. But the image that a skinny person is healthier than someone who has a little meat on the bones is misconception. Healthy consists of more than weight. It includes how we see our selves and how we treat ourselves. How do we talk to our body?

We should actually be thankful for being healthy every day that we are, because it is not necessary something we can take for granted. So celebrate a healthy body. In whatever size or shape it might come.

Just for fun I want to present this photo of olympic athletes; just to make sure that my message of variety comes across! The sport each one of them is competing in is listed under each athlete depicted.

Twenty something years ago my friend was participating in a beauty contest. Then she used the famous coffee and cigarette diet. Eating nothing and drinking coffee and smoking! YUK…Then we were skinny but NOT healthy.

There is a reason why skinny is not alway´s healthy and the misconception starts with our own image of ourselves.

The body is a temple, treat it that way.

Sugar is the white death

This is a statement from Cancer Truth:

Sugar is *NOT* your friend. It may feel like your friend when it comforts you (due to the beta-endorphin rush in your brain), but sugar is actually your enemy. Truth be told, regular consumption of sugary foods is one of the worst things that you can do to your health.

Here you can read the whole » Sugar is the white death» article on cancer truth.

One of my favorite scientists Dr. Robert H. Lustig is participating in these educational videos from the University of California

Dr. Lustig has also been on 60 minutes talking about his research. It is inspirational to hear him talk against the food industry. He is stepping on many toes. My prediction is that there will be  a massive kickback from those who have no sense of social responsibility  and poison their fellow-men guilt free.

The first video I saw by Dr. Lustig is one hour and twenty-nine minutes. It is mind-blowing. He is turning everything we have believed about calorie intake before upside down.

So why do I think this is a big deal? Sugar is a drug. Why do I say that? I have been a drug addict and my drug of choice was sugar. The «problem» is that I did not gain weight. That sounds delightful doesn´t it?  You know what?  My body doesn´t  think so. Thanks to an excellent dentist the consequences can not be seen. The damage to my digestive system is something I have to pay attention to every day. Sugar overconsumption is not  friendly to the body, not even if you don´t gain weight..

But all in all I am thankful for the lesson. I have only one life. I have to try to live it in harmony with my body and my surroundings.

I put all three videos under «videos» if you want to safe them for later.

Hungry for change?

I just had to post this, because the message is so clear. The three main causes of PREVENTABLE  causes of deaths in the U.S.A  are;

  1. Smoking
  2. Obesity
  3. Alcohol

These are all addiction related , nicotine addiction, food addiction and alcohol addiction. Do you still wonder what the problem is? Obesity  is caused by addiction  and it needs to be treated like one. And prevented by avoiding the unhealthy, food like products, that is referred  to  in the trailer.

Americas Fat Future

Does the future have to be like America´s Fat Future presents, or can we do something about it?

If you think organic food is expensive, just think of it as money saved in medical expenses later in life. When I started to buy more organic and more healthy food I had to adjust to the price tag. But I know that I am investing in me, for a more movable fun me,  in the future. The poster below is loaded with facts about preventable deaths. That is why we should care.

How do we read and understand nutritional information

This is a video from the Khan Academy. It shows how data can be read in  various way´s. If we read it in one way we get one outcome and if we read it differently we get another outcome.

It is a simple post from web-md, used  as an example of the difference between correlation and causality.

So it is no wonder that we get lost sometimes with all the health information. That is why we have to make it matter to us. Take a stand when it comes to our health. We can not take everything we read as the one and only truth. We have to evaluate where it comes from, what the original data is.

(and often we actually have to know sometimes who paid for the research to validate the outcome)

It sure is a jungle out there!
